Our Second Week at the SideHustleNG Start-Up Bootcamp

Last week, we announced Abacus Africa to the public as an incoming accounting software that would help small business owners across Africa manage their finances better. At Abacus, we strongly believe we have what it takes to bring your small business immense amount of value and the entire team has been up and running trying to make this happen. Grab a chair and a cup of tea while we take you through the journey.

Have you ever panicked before a presentation you already prepared for? This is the emotion we felt last Thursday before our pitch deck with SideHustle after seeing wonderful presentations from other teams, and their designs. Although what we thought to be a pitch deck turned out to be a progress report. Alas, we had been worried about nothing.

The assistant team lead, Oladipupo Ayoola, delivered a great presentation to the SideHustle team. He highlighted what each track/sub-team had achieved in the past week.

The Product management team came up with a Product Research Document, an extensively detailed document that details all that is required for Abacus to effectively serve its intended purpose. They also came up with a product roadmap, which was set up on Jira, while working with the Quality Assurance team on the product backlog.

Have you ever been on a three-hour Google meet? Story of our lives, after an intensive brainstorming session with the Product Managers, our Product Design team designed some eye-catching low-fidelity and mid-fidelity wireframes using Figma.

The Frontend development team worked alongside the Product design teams’ wireframes to develop the 'coming soon' webpage for Abacus. Do check it out.

The Digital marketing team set up social media pages for Abacus and is also driving organic followers to the pages. They also created a content calendar that is aimed at helping them effectively schedule content that will go up on the social media pages. You can find our social media pages by clicking here.

The Customer Relationship team has been up and running. They set up a Zoho CRM account, a Tawk.to account and a Mailchimp account, which they connected to our webpage. This will allow for customers to communicate with us effortlessly.

A big shout-out goes to our ever-capable graphic designer, Joshua Anthony, who single-handedly designed our team flyers and logo. Along with some other graphical elements, such as social media headers. You can see how amazing of a job he did. You can check out the team flyers on this twitter post.

The Backend development team has not been too engaged so far, but they have their GitHub accounts all set up and ready for action.

The Data analytics team carried out data research on the trends from past years. They also worked alongside the Product design team to carry out a User Research aimed at understanding the potential users of Abacus better.

As you well know, data is only of use when converted into information. The collected data was analyzed and visualized as a dashboard that summarized the results of the data research.

We are looking to keep up the high energies week and the coming weeks. One thing that’s for sure is, Abacus is coming. You just have to watch out!
